In additional to supporting you and your family, your business can be a resource that you can use to support your local church, fund outreach & missions, and serve people – employees, partners, customers. Here are a few scriptures to mediate on when considering starting a business:
- Genesis 1:1 – God was the first creative.
- Proverbs 16:9 – Our hearts can set the general direction we want to go in, but it’s the Lord that directs each step to get us there.
- Exodus 31:1-11 – It’s God who gives us the ability to design, create, and make things.
- Proverbs 22:29 – Skill brings promotion.
- Proverbs 11:14 – There is safety in getting wise counsel for your business.
- Proverbs 16:3 – Start your business with God and let Him guide your business journey.
- Matthew 25:14–30 – God expects us to steward what we’ve been given.
- Deuteronomy 8:18 – God gives us the power to create wealth.
- Proverbs 11:1 – Dishonesty in business dealings are an abomination to the Lord but He delights when we do right.
- Proverbs 3:5-6 – Seek and rely on divine direction from the Lord over your own limited view of things.
- Ecclesiastes 11:4 – Don’t wait for the “perfect” time – start where you are and trust God with the outcome.
- Luke 14:28 – Planning & preparation are mandatory parts of good business.
- Proverbs 22:9 – Being diligent in your work opens doors of opportunity.
- Habakkuk 2:2-3 – Having a vision for your business is vital. Write it down, pray about it, and work in faith.
