Just in case you didn’t know—you are special, unique, and creative. Yes, you! How do I know this? Because you were created by a creative God, and He made you just like Him. That means creativity is already inside you, whether you realize it or not. It’s not something you have to earn, buy, or wish for—it’s a gift you’ve had since the very beginning.
But maybe you don’t feel creative. Maybe you’ve told yourself, “I can’t paint. I can’t sew. I can’t build or bake or design. Creativity is for ‘artsy’ people, not for me.” If that’s you, let’s clear up a major myth: Creativity isn’t just about making art.
Creativity Comes in Many Forms
When we hear the word “creative,” we often think of painters, musicians, designers, or writers. But creativity is so much bigger than that. It’s not just about what you can make—it’s about how you think, how you solve problems, and how you bring ideas to life. Creativity shows up in:
- The way you tell stories that captivate an audience.
- The way you put together the perfect outfit or home décor.
- The way you come up with solutions when things don’t go as planned.
- The way you encourage and uplift people with your words.
- The way you see potential where others see limitations.
You might not be a painter, but maybe you’re an incredible organizer. Maybe you have a way of making people feel heard and understood. Maybe you’re great at coming up with ideas that no one else would think of. That’s creativity!
Designed to Create
The Bible tells us in Genesis 1:27 that we are made in the image of God—the ultimate Creator. That means creativity is part of who we are.
God spoke the universe into existence. He designed the mountains, the oceans, and the endless variety of plants and animals. He created color, light, and texture. And then He created you, uniquely designed with your own special blend of skills, passions, and ideas.
So if you’ve ever doubted your creativity, stop. The fact that you are here means you have something to create, something to contribute, something that the world needs.
Finding Your Unique Creative Gift
Maybe you haven’t discovered what your unique creativity looks like yet. That’s okay! The key is to stay open, explore different ideas, and give yourself permission to try new things. Here are a few ways to uncover your creativity:
- Pay attention to what excites you. What topics, activities, or challenges make you light up? What do you love to talk about or get lost in for hours?
- Notice where you solve problems easily. Creativity isn’t just about making something—it’s about figuring things out. Where do you naturally come up with solutions?
- Try new things. If you’ve never considered yourself creative, experiment! Take a class, start a hobby, or try something outside your comfort zone.
- Stop comparing. Your creativity is yours—not anyone else’s. Don’t measure it against what others can do. What you create in your own way has value.
Your Creativity Has Purpose
You were given creativity for a reason. Whether it’s to bring joy, inspire others, solve problems, or even start a business, your creative gift is meant to be used. The world needs what you have to offer, and no one else can bring it in quite the same way that you can.
So today, I challenge you to stop saying “I’m not creative”—because it’s simply not true. Instead, start asking, “How can I use my creativity today?”
You are creative, you are capable, and you are made for this. Let’s go discover it together!
